Some of us have a desire for the sour. Like Lemonheads and Sauerkraut. In the case of Sauerkraut, some of the same bacteria (Lactobacillus, and Pediococcus) are responsible in souring beer. Sour beer is certainly not the most popular style in the world of suds, and that, in addition to $$$ per ounce, is what makes it also so hard to find. Lambic, a Belgian style, is what most equate to as “sour ale.” But other’s also exist;
Flanders Red and Brown, German Berliner Weisse, some Witbiers, Saison, and straight out experimental sour beer. On Saturday, June 21st, BEER ENGINE will have many, many sour ales available for you to taste. Samples are $3, 4oz.
Here is just a sampling of the Sour Ales we have: Cantillon Rosé De Gambrinus, Classic Gueuze, Kriek, Iris, and others. Boon Framboise, Gueuze, and Kriek. Rodenbach Grand Cru. Panil Barriquée. Many more plus just about everything from Jolly Pumpkin. As the list grows, we’ll keep you posted.
