Beer Engine is a locally owned, neighborhood restaurant and bar that prides itself on gourmet burgers and gourmet beer. Beer Engine is open every day of the year 11AM to 2:30AM. In addition to 29 premium draft beers, Beer Engine also features two authentic Cask Conditioned ales, and 100+ bottles to choose from.

Our vegetarian-friendly menu includes 20 half-pound burgers, as well as sandwiches, salads, platters, many appetizers, and weekly specials.

We pride ourselves on the most unique and ever-changing draft list around. We constantly put new beers on tap; we don’t have a set list of beers like some others do. We frequently hold special events, beer dinners, glass promotions, and effectively update our patrons through our comprehensive beer lists and email updates.

The concept was started many years ago by Robert and Garin Wright who ran a popular beer bar and brewery in Bedford Heights called Buckeye Brewing. It included a Brew on Premise. One of only two in the State before it was eventually sold to new owners.

Early on it was apparent that food was necessary to complete the concept they had in mind. Zoning and other issues prevented that from happening. But in the meantime, and as early as 2000, Garin Wright was pushing the envelope, not only with his award winner beer such as Hippie IPA and Martian Marzen, but with the extremely hard to find beer that he was exposing to the public. In addition, Garin was hosting incredible special events such as “XMAS in Belgium,” “Hoptoberfest,” and the grand finale, “Cask Conditioned Ale Fest ‘06.”

In 2006, a lot of changes took place. Half the business was sold and they left their original location, founded in 1997, and moved west to Lakewood, Ohio. They had been looking in Lakewood for years, but couldn’t quite find the right spot, but eventually did. There they partnered with Brian Davis who was put in charge of a very important element, menu design. After months of brainstorming a menu direction (pizza, pub food, anything and everything), burgers were finally chosen as the compliment to the extraordinary draft list the public of Lakewood, Ohio would soon observe. Beer Engine opened its doors on Tuesday, March 13th, 2007 at 11AM.

“Thank you for your business,” Garin Wright, Beer Engine and Buckeye Brewing.
