BE is a locally owned, neighborhood restaurant and bar that prides itself on gourmet burgers and gourmet beer. In addition to 29 premium draft beers, Beer Engine also features two authentic Cask Conditioned ales and over 100 bottles to choose from. Additionally, we have the first and only wall-mounted Duvel tap in the United States.
Our menu includes a variety of burgers, as well as sandwiches, salads, vegetarian-friendly items, appetizers, and weekly specials including a wonderful brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.
We pride ourselves on the most unique and ever-changing draft list around. We constantly put new beers on tap; and because of our valued relationships, we frequently have exclusive offerings not found anywhere else.
The concept was started in 1997 as a beer bar and brewery in Bedford Heights called Buckeye Brewing. It was a brew-on-premise location and one of only two originally in the State of Ohio.
An extensive beer selection drove demand and Buckeye quickly outgrew their space. Lakewood was an up-and-coming location and the owners saw the potential in this incredible community. They officially opened at the current spot in Lakewood on March 13, 2007.
In 2009, BE hired a hostess named Renee Tyler, who eventually moved up to server, then to manager. 6 years later, they hired Peter Stancato as General Manager.
When the former owners decided to retire in 2019, they approached Peter who approached Renee and the two partnered to become the new owners of this incredible restaurant!

June’s burger of the month is the Backyard Burger featuring special dill-pickle burger sauce on both buns, bacon and pickle chips topping the bottom and some fresh mozzarella and American cheese on top of our Proprietary blend third pound all Ohio beef patty. Finished up with a horseradish and dill creamy coleslaw on a butter griddled sesame seed brioche bun.
June’s Wrap of the Month is our Schwarma Shroomer, a tomato tortilla stuffed with zhoug sauce (think cilantro pesto), schwarma style portobella mushrooms, and a trifecta of roasted red onion, pickled red onion, and raw red onion. Topped with diced tomatoes, arugula, and a house special lemon garlic coleslaw.
